Babysitting Basics (ages 11 - 15)
11 Years & Up
Babysitting is a job with significant responsibility. This course helps prospective babysitters learn the skills they need. It teaches the new babysitter the skills to provide care to children. The course emphasizes safety rules, responding to emergencies, and developing leadership skills.
COURSE CONTENT
- Becoming a babysitter
- Basic first aid
- Healthy meals
- Safe play
- Changing diapers
- Bedtime routines
- Handling emergencies
Participants will also learn skills for making correct decisions when dealing with behaviour, caring for a sick child, and what to ask before caring for a child with disabilities.
Please bring a lunch (nut-free), a water bottle, a pen, paper, and a stuffed animal or doll to help you practice.

Cardio - Strength Fusion
Start your day off on the right foot with a class that's heart healthy and guaranteed to get your blood pumping! The workout includes easy-to-follow, low-impact movement with functional whole body combination exercises using Therabands and dumbbells and ends with balancing and stretching exercises. This program is great for all ages. These classes offer a range of intensity options and modifications to meet your fitness level.
Please wear comfortable clothing and bring clean indoor footwear.

Growing Up Green uses nature as a learning tool, and encourages parents/caregivers and preschool children to go outside and explore. A neighborhood cleanup can be a great way to create awareness in your area, lay the groundwork for future waste-reducing efforts and can create a sense of community!
Garbage bags and instructions will be provided.

Cleanup starts at 9:30 am at the Headingley Community Centre.

Kairos Blanket Exercise
The Kairos Blanket Exercise (KBE) is an experiential activity that aims to foster understanding of the shared history and nation to nation relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada. Everyone is actively involved as they step onto blankets that represent the land, and into the role of First Nations, Inuit and later Métis peoples. By engaging on an emotional and intellectual level, the Blanket Exercise effectively educates and increases empathy. The exercise is followed up with the opportunity for reflection and sharing of thoughts in the form of a sharing circle, led by an Indigenous Knowledge Keeper.
Register by Wednesday, May 15th.
There is no fee for this workshop.

Get your kicks out of this beginner soccer program. Coaches will use games and activities to teach the fundamental skills and rules of this popular game. Bring your own soccer ball or purchase one from us with your registration!

In this workshop, you will learn about dot painting tools & techniques, practice several design elements, and create a stunning design on your 6” wood Mandala round. No previous experience or skills required. Tools will be provided by the instructor or you may purchase a set at registration.

Muay Thai Fitness (ages 10+)
This class is a high energy workout that will challenge the beginner and seasoned athletes alike. Build Stamina, improve coordination and flexibility, and burn calories, all while learning proper kickboxing and self-defense techniques. Have fun and challenge yourself at the same time!

Come join us at the Phoenix Community Centre for an evening of creation, connection and community! We will be making beautiful resin pendants with all sorts of tiny treasures and vibrant colours. You will be going home with your very own necklace, a pair of earrings and a set of wine charms. If you’d like to do more of one and none of the others there will be plenty of charms to choose from. You will get your own bottle of resin and can make with it what you wish!

Rubber Hits The Road - A fun group cycle
Are you interested in meeting new people and exploring Headingley on your bike? This social ride is a chance to meet new people, explore the community and gain confidence in biking skills and endurance. The weekly rides will be planned for Wednesdays, but start dates, meeting locations and routes will be decided at a later time depending on the weather. All you need is a bike, a helmet and a sense of adventure!

Urban Pole Walking Club
There are many benefits to using Urban Poles, including balance (always have two points of contact which decreases chances of falling), pain relief (poles let you offload weight from hips and knees), core strengthening, posture (strengthen your arms and back) and cardio fitness (energizing activity)! Walking indoors or outdoors using walking poles. Indoor walkers must wear clean indoor shoes. Outdoor walkers will plan a route together. Poles are available to borrow if you do not have your own. Have a try at this walking club!

This is the perfect antidote to stress and a great counterbalance to active lifestyles. All classes are designed for beginners and beyond. This parent-child program will encourage early movement and coordination using simple songs, large and small apparatus and hand-held equipment. Toddlers will develop a positive attitude towards physical activity while having fun with mom and/or dad. Parents must participate with their child.

Bring a snack, water bottle and sunhat! We recommend wearing running shoes for outdoor games afterwards!
We will be providing white bucket hats or tote bags for the children to decorate and design with fabric paint, fabric markers and embroidered patches!
This program is rain or shine, with indoor facility access incase of thunder/lightning or heavy rain.

We will be providing T-shirts to tie dye! Please email with your child's T-shirt size.
Tie dyed items will be brought home after the program with instructions on how to wash and set the colour.
