Are you in a creative rut?  Do you love to draw and paint but finding yourself stuck on where to start? Or maybe it flows for you, but you want your art to have more meaning or perhaps even be infused with magic?

This Magical Paint night allows us to access our subconscious, and our magic deep within.

You will start by setting up your art stations, and then move to your yoga mats to lie in savasana. Here, you'll be guided through a hypnosis practice where you will connect with your inner magic and let it lead you to your most vibrant creativity. You'll be prompted to remember any images you see. After being guided back out of this restful state we move to our paint stations to create what we just experienced.

It's a paint night like no other. It's fun, it's interesting - and we're often pleasantly surprised by what we come up with!

Keep active in the snow this Winter by using Urban Poles, or take a break from the cold while still getting in those steps! This group will meet once per week this Winter and have the option of walking outdoors or indoors.

Indoor Walking: In the Headingley Community Centre auditorium, walking shoes must be non-marking indoor only shoes. Walkers or any walking aids must be clean. Urban Walking Poles are available for people walking indoors.  You are encouraged to bring your own if you have a set.

Outdoor Walking: Group will start at the Headingley Community Centre and enjoy a stroll around the neighbourhood.  Please wear shoes or boots with traction, and warm gear. Urban Poles are available to borrow for the walk. You are encouraged to bring your own if you have a set.

There are many benefits to using Urban Poles, including: balance (always have two points of contact which decreases chances of falling), pain relief (poles let you offload weight from hips and knees), core strengthening,  posture (strengthen your arms and back) and cardio fitness (energizing activity)! Have a try at this walking club!

Yin Yoga is a slower pace style of yoga that incorporates principles of traditional Chinese medicine with asanas or postures. Yin Yoga consists of fewer poses which work the connective tissue of the body; the tendons, ligaments and fascia. These are areas of our bodies we do not always consider but every healthy body needs the stretching until one reaches their place of resistance, holding still and holding for time. This creates a strong mind in that we learn to be mindful of our movements and our thoughts. Working these parts of our bodies assists individuals with arthritis, stiffness and assists with mobility issues. Yin Yoga is a practice that helps to control breath, teaches a deeper breath which calms body and mind. Yin Yoga balances the Yoga Flow.

Equipment: Please bring a yoga mat.

You do not have to be flexible or have great balance to come and have some Yoga fun! Learn some new skills that can help with your focus and concentration for playing sports, playing music, artwork, homework or just about anything else you are interested in doing. Yoga will help with flexibility and balance, but it will also help with strength and learning about your body. We are all very unique and different from everybody else.

Come and practice some yoga asanas (poses) with JoAnne and learn some new things about yourself. Each session will incorporate some individual work, some group or partner work, music, stories, games and some meditation. You will leave the practice feeling refreshed and calm and ready to take on the rest of your day with a clear mind.

Participants will need to bring a yoga mat.

This Family Walking Mediation is for anyone ages 8+. Parents, children, grandparents, friends, all welcomed!

Join us for a mindful walk in nature. We will use all of our sense to be present in the moment and savour the sights, sounds, smells and textures around us. Notice things we may not have noticed before. Pay attention to the things we pass by everyday without a second thought. We will take the time to see how we feel when we are consciously present.

We will use breathing exercises to tune into ourselves and learn some ways to listen to our bodies.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.
