Stretch Your Muscles or Stretch Your Mind!

MHRD offers a wide variety of sports, recreation, fitness, arts, crafts and special interest classes to keep you on your toes all year round. We strive to offer you fun, exciting and quality activities through trained and certified instructors.

Our program guide is published online three times a year and advertised via mailed postcards to over 5000 residence and businesses throughout the district and surrounding areas.

Advertising

Let us help you promote your business in the Municipalities of Macdonald & Headingley. The Program and Community Resource Guide is delivered to over 5,000 homes and businesses and showcases a number of programs and recreational activities for all ages. Perfect resource for events, activities, and celebrations going on in your community. Stay connected with this easy read that has something in it for everybody! The guide is also view-able online with each business being hyperlinked so consumers will be directed right to their website!

*DUE TO COVID - The Fall 2021 Program & Community Resource Guide will be online. Postcards will be mailed out to all business and homes in the communities to direct viewers to our webpage where a PDF version of the guide will be available.

The guide will remain online until further notice!

Fall Edition
Covers programs from September to December and advertising
Deadline: June 30th.

Winter Edition
Covers programs from December to March and advertising
Deadline: November 1st

Spring Edition
Covers programs March to August and advertising

Registration, Payments & Receipts

General Information
  • All programs & schedules are subject to change in dates, location & instructors.
  • Pre-registration is required for all programs.
  • Participants registering in a fitness program are also required to complete a Par Q. (Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire)
  • Higher risk activities will require a signed consent form.
  • It is the participant's responsibility to inform MHRD staff and program instructor of any medical problems that may be a limiting factor to full participation in a program.
Registering Online

**Special note for Hotmail and Outlook user accounts

Please note that if you register online or sign up for our newsletter using a hotmail account you may not receive confirmations or notifications via email unless you add to your 'Safe Senders' list. If you are having difficulties or are not receiving our emails please give us a call at 204-885-2444.

Method of Payment

We ask that payment be made prior to the first class by e-transfer to or by cash/cheque at the first class (If program is in-person). Post dated cheques are accepted. Cheques are made payable to the "Macdonald-Headingley Recreation District." Any NSF cheques will be charged a $25 administration fee.

eTransfers

We are now accepting eTransfers as a method of payment. Simply send your payment transfer to ! Please call or email to confirm the security question and password.

Receipts

Receipts will be issued upon request.

Assistance

Recreation is for everyone- lack of financial resources should not stop you from participating in a recreation program or being active. MHRD can help you and your family. For more information, please contact the MHRD office to discuss options.

Program Cancellations

All classes are subject to cancellation if there are insufficient registrations. We will notify you as soon as a decision has been made.

Should you be unable to attend a weekly class that you have signed up for, please cancel your registration a minimum of 3 hours prior to the start time of the class. Contact our front desk at 204-885-2444 or to cancel by phone or email. We ask that you provide as much notice as possible so that others can make use of the class spot.

Rescheduled Programs/ Inclement Weather

Every attempt will be made to reschedule classes that are canceled due to unforeseen circumstances such as weather, facility or instructor conflict. In the event that the rescheduled class does not suit the program participant, a refund will be provided for the class/classes missed. When schools are closed due to inclement weather, any MHRD programs taking place within those schools will be canceled. If you are unsure whether your program has been canceled, please contact the MHRD office.

Program Transfers

Participants may transfer programs, provided there is available space. Registration may not be transferred from one participant to another.

Participant Substitutions

As part of our policy, we do not allow participant substitutions.

Non Resident Registrations

All fees listed are the resident fee rate. Residents are people residing within the corporate limits of the Macdonald - Headingley Recreation District (RM of Macdonald and RM of Headingley). Non residents will be required to pay an additional 20% per program registration fee. Individuals who own land or a business within the district will be exempt from the "out of district" fee.

Student Rate

Students (ages 12-17) participating in any healthy living class that qualify will pay 50% of the registration fee.

Free Trial Class

Are you curious whether or not a program is for you? Give it a try...the first class is on us! Customers are allowed to attend one session of a multi week program at no charge to determine if they would like to join the program. Customers must contact the MHRD office prior to trying the program. If the customer decides to continue with the program, the appropriate registration fees will be charged.

Buy What You Need

Look for the programs that qualify for this flexible pricing option. Customers can identify the number of classes they wish to purchase in a multi class program. The fee will be pro-rated for the number of classes requested. Refunds will only be considered for medical reasons or on a case by case basis.

Facility

Please be aware of the ongoing support each facility provides by allowing these programs to take place. Please respect all signage, ensure proper footwear and remain within the designated program area.

Arrive on Time

Please arrive 5-10 minutes prior to the start time of your class. Late arrivals are disruptive to the instructor and the other students.

Respect to All

We want to create an environment where everyone can participate end enjoy MHRD programs and events.

Nut Free

If a child/youth program or event involves the participants bringing lunch, please be mindful in your preparation of the food to ensure that it is nut free.

Scent Free

Did you know that your perfume may be making some people sick? Please do your best to minimize your use of scented products as they may cause serious health issues to others in the class.

Be an Early Bird!

Many programs fill quickly. Registration is accepted on a first come, first served basis. Program size is managed according to instructor and facility guidelines.

Why Good Programs Get Cancelled

All classes are subject to minimum and maximum registration. If there are not enough participants registered, the program may be cancelled or postponed. Registering at the last minute may not save a great program...so register early!

Share Your Skills

Our programs are fun, informative and recreational. If you have an expertise or a passion to share, we are always on the lookout for instructors to deliver programs in the district. Prior experience is preferred but not required. Classes may be a one time workshop or a series. For more information on becoming an instructor, please contact the MHRD office.

FAQ's

Where do I go to see what programs are being offered?

Our programs can be found online here or in our program guide that is mailed out to the RM's of Headingley and Macdonald at the beginning of every program session. (Due to Covid-19 our guide will not be mailed out until further notice. Please view the guide online here.)

How do I register?

Registration can be done online at www.mhrd.ca, or you can register by phone 204.885.2444, by email or you could stop by our office and register in person 81 Alboro Street in Headingley! (*Our office is temporarily closed to the public due to Covid-19)

When is the deadline to register for a class?

Our deadlines are usually one week before the start date of a program. If you are not sure you can always give us a call 204.885.2444 or check on our website www.mhrd.ca.

When/how can I pay?

Once a program is confirmed we ask participants make their payment prior to the first class by e-transfer to If you are unable to e-transfer we do accept cash or cheque which can be mailed/dropped off at our office, or paid upon arrival of the first class (if in-person) to an MHRD staff member.

Do you have a drop in rate?

We do not do drop in rates, however, a lot of our classes are "Buy what you need". If you know how many classes you are able to attend, let us know and we can prorate your fees accordingly.

Do I have to register, or can I just show up?

We ask that everyone registers for each class. It is important that we have all your information in our system in case we need to contact you about any changes or cancellations.

I missed the deadline, can I still register?

Yes! For a lot of our classes we will still accept registrations after a deadline. If you are not sure give us a call. But it is important to try and register before a deadline because if we do not have enough participants by that date, the program will be cancelled.

Will I receive a confirmation when a program is running?

Yes, whether your program is confirmed or cancelled, we will send out an email to notify you.

Do you offer student discounts?

For our classes that qualify, yes we do offer 50% discounts for students ages 12-17 years of age. Look for the student discount symbol in our guide or ask us to find out if your class qualifies!

Do you have classes that are free?

We do offer a number of free programs and workshops for children and adults. Just look for the free symbol in our guide!

I never received a confirmation email!

If my in-person program has to move to an online format because of Covid-19 and public health recommendations and I do not wish to participate online can I get a refund?
