In this workshop, you will learn about dot painting tools & techniques, practice several design elements, and create a stunning design on your 6” wood Mandala round. No previous experience or skills required. Tools will be provided by the instructor or you may purchase a set at registration.

Join us this summer as we explore NATURE and ART. Spend time observing the natural world around us, developing curiosity and observation skills as we create beautiful works of art to take home.

- Batik
- Pressed flower art
- Print Making
Essential items participants will need to bring to camp with them: a lunch, indoor shoes, a hat, sun block, bug spray, a water bottle, and a positive attitude!

Resin Jewelry Workshop with Britt
Come join us at the Phoenix Community Centre for an evening of creation, connection and community! We will be making beautiful resin pendants with all sorts of tiny treasures and vibrant colours. You will be going home with your very own necklace, a pair of earrings and a set of wine charms. If you’d like to do more of one and none of the others there will be plenty of charms to choose from. You will get your own bottle of resin and can make with it what you wish!

Forest School Day Camp
Forest School Day Camp is an OUTDOOR week-long day camp filled with adventure! Forest camp activities will be play-based and child-led. Days will be filled with nature exploration, creativity, cooperation, imagination and appreciation of the land.
The fun will be encouraged and supported by forest school practitioner, Kirsten. READ -> Forest School Philosophy
Days start at 8:30 AM and end at 4:30 PM.
Essential items participants will need to bring to camp with them: a lunch, snacks, a hat, sun block, bug spray, a water bottle, and a positive attitude!
Please note: This camp is outdoors all week long and we will only use the indoor facility for bathroom access and in the case of inclement weather.

Headingley Earth Day - Community Cleanup 2024
Save the date and bring your family & friends.
A neighborhood cleanup can be a great way to create awareness in your area, lay the groundwork for future waste-reducing efforts and can create a sense of community!
Garbage bags and instructions will be provided.
Let's all do our part to keep Headingley clean!
Cleanup starts at 9:30 am at the Headingley Community Centre.
Breakfast & coffee will be ready for all at 9:00 am.

Urban Pole Walking Club
There are many benefits to using Urban Poles, including balance (always have two points of contact which decreases chances of falling), pain relief (poles let you offload weight from hips and knees), core strengthening, posture (strengthen your arms and back) and cardio fitness (energizing activity)! Walking indoors or outdoors using walking poles. Indoor walkers must wear clean indoor shoes. Outdoor walkers will plan a route together. Poles are available to borrow if you do not have your own. Have a try at this walking club!

Canadian Firearms Safety Course - Non - Restricted
Ages 12+
The Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) is an eight-hour introductory course for individuals who are interested in owning non-restricted firearms. This course is mandatory for those who want to apply for a PAL. During the course, we learn about firearm safety from the CFSC handbook. The primary focus of the course is to prevent accidents. We will cover topics such as target shooting and hunting practices. Participants will have hands-on experience with various firearms and types of ammunition. However, please note that the firearms we use are disabled, and the ammunition is dummy ammunition. The course will also cover safe and legal storage practices.

Are you interested in the process of making comics? Or maybe you enjoy reading them.
Please join us at the Phoenix Community Centre this summer to learn more!
Using hands on techniques and materials, students will create and assemble their own comics project.
You will learn how to apply storytelling techniques with words and pictures.
Award-winning writer/illustrator GMB Chomichuk leads this fun and accessible comics-making workshop to build skills and literacy with comics.
This workshop is best suited for Youth Ages 14+

Are you interested in the process of making comics? Or maybe you enjoy reading them!
We want to invite you to join us at the Phoenix Community Centre this summer to learn more about comics!
Over three sessions, participants will engage in comics and cartooning exercises.
They will learn about different approaches to graphic storytelling and get feedback on their own comics.
Please note that this workshop is best suited for youth aged 10-13.

Kairos Blanket Exercise
The Kairos Blanket Exercise (KBE) is an experiential activity that aims to foster understanding of the shared history and nation to nation relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada. Everyone is actively involved as they step onto blankets that represent the land, and into the role of First Nations, Inuit and later Métis peoples. By engaging on an emotional and intellectual level, the Blanket Exercise effectively educates and increases empathy. The exercise is followed up with the opportunity for reflection and sharing of thoughts in the form of a sharing circle, led by an Indigenous Knowledge Keeper.
Register by Wednesday, May 15th.
There is no fee for this workshop.
This workshop is hosted by the Headingley Grand Trunk Trail with support through Southern Health – Sante Sud.

Resin Jewelry Workshop with Britt
Come join us at the Phoenix Community Centre for an evening of creation, connection and community! We will be making beautiful resin pendants with all sorts of tiny treasures and vibrant colours. You will be going home with your very own necklace, a pair of earrings and a set of wine charms. If you’d like to do more of one and none of the others there will be plenty of charms to choose from. You will get your own bottle of resin and can make with it what you wish!

Yin Yang Yoga (ages 18+)
Yin Yang Yoga classes provide the benefits of a balanced practice of Hatha yoga as well as Yin yoga. Hatha yoga is a classical form of yoga postures and breathing that revitalizes the body physically and mentally. It is an uplifting practice that increases muscle tone, improves flexibility and concentration, detoxifies the vital organs and allows you to experience a state of deep relaxation. Yin yoga is a powerful practice with targets joints, ligaments and fascia within the body. Each posture is held for long periods of time to encourage the slow and safe opening of connective tissues. This is the perfect antidote to stress and a great counterbalance to active lifestyles. All classes are designed for beginners and beyond. Please bring water, a yoga mat as well as any other yoga props you may have.
